1962 Carlton

Carlton Criterium. 23.5" frame number K4109

This Carlton was acquired from a neighbour. It had belonged to his father-in-law but it was destined for a trip to the dump. I rescued it and restored it

Under a layer of green paint was a layer of yellow and under that a layer of black. Below that was the original eau-de-nil paint with the seat tube red and white contrasts.

Paintwork and repairs are by Mercian Cycles.

Decals are from Nick at Lloyds Cycles.

Chris Hewitt at Harpenden built the wheels, set up the gears and generally fixed the bits I mucked up.

1962 Criterium

The original handlebars had been replaced by a pair of Lamberts with the gold anodised shim in the centre.

GB stem with the adjuster screwed in for the front brake cable.

Brakes are Weinmann 999. The cables were the original Weinmann grey, but old and faded, replaced with new.

Griff at Griffs Motorcycle Services helped out with the gold anodising for the replica Lambert shim I made. The Lambert lettering is a home-made decal.

Lambert bars

Steering stem

Rear stays and Huret Allvit

Front end

The Bluemels Air Weight mudguards are original.

Williams chainwheel and cranks with year letters ZB and ZC equating to 1962. Lyotard pedals.

I replaced the later Huret derailleur with a period Huret Allvit. The gear lever is also Huret, but from a later period, I just liked it.

The badge was hand-painted, several times....

The bike as found is shown below.
