Reg Harris

Cycle Racer and World Champion

Reg Harris (1920-1992) was a leading track racer in the 40's and 50's. World amateur sprint champion in 1947, Professional champion in 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1954, two Olympic silver medals in 1948 and a British championship in 1974 at the age of 54.

Reg Harris had a big influence at Carlton in the late 50's through his involvement in the Raleigh takeover. At first he had tried to persuade Raleigh to set up a business in his name, but when that fell through he helped in the takeover of Carlton to enable Raleigh to move into the quality hand-built market. For a short while he was on the Carlton Board of Directors.

For more details of his career see the links at the bottom of the page.
